The Matambeni hide on the northern bank of the Engelhardt dam offers a particularly good vantage point for bird viewing.

Wildlife:
While most of the large mammals can be seen around Letaba, Elephant abounds and Rhino is pretty scarce. Visitors don’t even need to leave the camp, as Lion and Cheetah can be seen when you look over to the Letaba River, across from the restcamp. Squirrels, Vervet Monkey, bats and buck can be seen as well.

Birding:
Letaba is rich with difference birdlife. Birds such as Pearlspotted, Barred and Scops owls have been spotted all at once in a single tree. Other birds include Greencapped eremomela, Mourning Dove, Arrow-marked babbler and Orange-breasted bush shrike to mention a few.

Each caravan/ camping site offers a different variety of attractions and facilities.

The rising morning sun paints the African landscape around Malelane Camp in golden shine and the bush awakens suddenly. It is recommended that you bring cameras and binoculars for your camping in Kruger National Park. As the weather may change within minutes, guests are advised to wear a weatherproof jacket and cap. Bush walks are always accompanied by accredited and armed field guides.

Accommodation

Description

Mopani Camp gets the name from the Mopane Trees which can be found in abundance in the region. The indigenous vegetation has been left untouched, while newly planted trees have been laid out making this camp a bush oasis.

All the buildings are built from natural materials such as rough stone, wood and thatch. This is one of the Kruger Park rest camps where you can see all the different forms of game.

Please Note:
All Emergency Road Services are from Satara. If you must walk around at night please do not do so without a torch.

Accommodation

Xaxanetsi Guesthouse:
This guesthouse has 4 en-suite chalets (one for handicapped guests), a large living area and deck, bar and braai (barbeque) area, stunning views, satellite TV, and a modern kitchen.

Family Cottages:
There are 45 family cottages. Each cottage has 6 beds, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge, veranda and braai (barbecue) area.

Luxury Cottages:
There are 12 luxury cottages which are smaller but offer elegance. These cottages feature a double bedroom, en-suite bathroom, a living room with sofas and beds and a bathroom for 2 more people. The thatched patio has a kitchenette, a 4 seater table and a braai (barbecue) area.

Bungalows:

Olifants Camp is situated on top of a hill, overlooking the life giving waters of the Olifants River in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. You enter Olifants through the Phalaborwa Gate, a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg. By air, you travel with regular domestic flights from Johannesburg to Phalaborwa Kruger Park Gateway Airport.

This area offers a diverse range of vegetation including Apple Leaf, Tamboti, Mopane, Marula and Mixed Acacias. Due to this vast range of flora, much wildlife is known to inhabit this lush area.

You might even see the occasional Lion kill, a truly dramatic experience.

Game drives and night drives through the bush affords the perfect opportunity to spot game in close range. Guided game walks are ideal for guests wanting to learn about the bush, its inhabitants, eco system and vegetation. For the more adventurous, an exciting mountain bike trail would prove rewarding.

Morning and evening bush braais (barbecue) is a good way to mingle with your guides and other guests while enjoying traditional bush cuisine under the African sky. At night, huddle around the crackling camp fire, where you enjoy excellent food, great conversation, and the amazing sounds of the Kruger Park nocturnal world coming to life.

A new and exciting way to learn more about Kruger involves combining an afternoon and night game drive with sundowners in the bush, followed by an interesting and informative session on the Southern Hemisphere skies and African star lore.

As darkness falls, view the vast galaxy of stars that watch over Kruger from a large telescope set up in the bush. Experienced guides will take you through the Milky Way, answering all your questions in the process. Guests can view constellations such as the Southern Cross, Orion and Scorpio, and even the planets.

Description

Orpen Main Rest Camp is a Kruger Park Camp situated in the central region of the famous Kruger National Park, on the western border. This small main camp serves as an entrance gate to the central region of the Park. Because of the scattered trees and wide open plains covered by sweet grass, many browsers are drawn to this area, which in turn attracts Cheetah, Lion and Leopard.

Orpen is well known for its rich diversity of wildlife, habitat and flora and offers guests an excellent opportunity to enjoy close encounters with Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Wild Dog, Cheetah and Giraffe.

Outside the Orpen Camp fence is where you will find a small waterhole where game can be seen quenching their thirst. Impala and Baboon are regular visitors to this area, but Elephant can also be sighted in the evenings.

Accommodation

Your Kruger Park camp offers accommodation in huts with communal kitchens and ablutions, or luxury guest cottages.

There are ten 2 bedroomed huts and two 3 bedroomed huts available at this Kruger Park camp. These huts offer communal kitchen and ablution facilities, a wash basin, and a verandah, but no air conditioning, fan, fridge, or cooking utensils. There is no electricity available and lantern lights are used.

There are 3 six-bed guest cottages, all with fully equipped kitchenettes with basic kitchen amenities. One bedroom has an en suite bathroom with bath, toilet and washbasin, and there is a separate toilet, shower and wash basin.

Location

Orpen Camp is situated in central Kruger National Park, South Africa, in a very dry region of the Park. Orpen is home to a great diversity of flora and fauna. Tall Acacia and Marula trees provide shade during those hot South African days, and beautiful aloe and daisy gardens provide a tranquil and peaceful setting.

Activities

The surrounding area of Orpen Camp offers excellent game viewing opportunities. Your game viewing adventure starts on the drive from Orpen to Satara, where herds of Zebra and Wildebeest can be seen grazing on the side of the road. Giraffe, Impala, Warthog and Elephant are also likely sightings. Turn off this road to the Timbavati River northwards to Olifants Camp, where 3 of the famous big cats can be seen – Lion, Cheetah and Leopard.

Game drives and night drives afford the opportunity to view game at close range from the comfort of 4X4 safari vehicles. For the more adventurous, game walks offers the thrilling experience of walking through the bush with an armed guide leading the way. You will learn more about the wonders of the bush, as well as the smaller aspects of the Park, including spoors, insects and flora.
